If you thought you were getting too old to keep up with the rodeo crowd think again. National Senior Pro Rodeo Association is celebrating its 30th year this year. If you’re over 40 and still like to rodeo, then this association might just be what you are looking for. Over a 1,000 members compete at over 50 NSPRA rodeos through out the USA & Canada. The high level competition makes it exciting & enjoyable for both the fans & the contestants. There are 9 sanctioned events: Bareback, Bull Riding, Calf Roping, Ladies Barrel Racing, Ladies Break Away Roping, Ribbon Roping, Saddle Bronc, Steer Wrestling. And Team Roping. The events are broken into separate age groups (except for the Ladies Break Away Roping) Rough Stock has 40- 50 and 50 +. Timed events have 40 –50, 50- 60 & 60+. Calf Roping has a 68+ age group.
The NSPRA was first known as the National Old Timers Rodeo Assocition. It has slowly grown into a well respected organization. As of 2007 the NSPRA Hall Of Fame had 64 members. In addition to the men & women inducted each year, a bareback horse, saddle bronc horse and bucking bull are honored each year. The Hall Of Fame is now located in Wickenburg AZ. It is well worth a visit. It has collected memorabilia from inductees, NSPRA Champions and supporters. The National office is located at Wickenburg A.
