Doin a little R and R
Rodeoin and Ranchin with Dan and Kasey Etbauer

Jan.  7, 2008

Dan Etbauer grew up on a large ranch in Ree Heights, SD with a love for horses and anything western. He came up through the ranks of 4H, high school, amateur and college rodeo before turning pro. Dan is one of three highly successful NFR saddle bronc riding brothers (Dan, Billy and Robert). His resume is a dream career to most, 10x NFR qualifier, Reserve World Champion, DNCFR Champion, $50,000 Calgary Champion, Prairie Circuit champion, 6x TCRA Pickup Man of Year, NFR Pickup Man, and much more. In 2002 Dan retired due to injury and focused on breaking and training colts, skills he learned growing up in South Dakota. Bucking horses remained a passion for Dan so he also turned his sights on picking up, something he always enjoyed doing in his spare time when not riding broncs. In 2008, Dan added NFR Pickup Man to his resume, riding horses he had broke and trained. Dan has a teenage daughter, Rossy, she resides in California.

Kasey (Nichols) Etbauer grew up in Gilbert, AZ, a town her family had farmed in since early 1900s. She always knew horses and country life would be for her. Her father (Howard) and Grandfather (Gilbert) were NFR qualifiers and her mother (Laurie) was a successful professional barrel racer. Kasey is a Turquoise and Prairie Circuit finals qualifier, futurity and derby champion, KPRA Champion and multiple TCRA finals qualifier. Prior to meeting Dan, Kasey worked in the field of physical therapy but now trains colts alongside Dan. She loves seeing the colts progress from futurity level to pro. Her family is well known for two horses, Driftwood and Clabber. Driftwood was owned by Buck Nichols (uncle) and Clabber was owned by her great grandfather Abe Nichols.

Dan and Kasey reside in Goodwell, OK and run the 4N Ranch. They work primarily for 4N Horses, a partnership with Kasey’s parents as well as Mountain Rose Ranch Quarter Horses of Parks, AZ. They break and train colts for many disciplines together with managing a small breeding program for both ranches. They focus on quality time in and out of the arena, getting the colts broke and ready for a career. The bloodlines found at 4N Ranch are a mix of cow and race and would include: Judge Cash, Dash Ta Fame, Firewater Flit, Blue Valentine, Doc Bar, Poco Bueno and Hancock. Dan and Kasey love attending team ropings together and Dan instructs at bronc riding and pickup man clinics yearly. They truly love their western lifestyle in the panhandle and as Dan always says, “Goodwell is a good place to be!”
