I'm trying really hard not to whine here but just got back from doctor and it seems I'm falling apart. She didn't take my horses away from me...yet. But I'm a breath away from osteoporosis in my hips and she is very concerned about my falling and breaking a hip. (Fall? Off a young horse? Absurd!) So, guess I need some uplifting stories from the rest of you about how you're not listening to your doctor and you're doing just fine. What a crappy start to the weekend.

OK, done whining. Where's the 'ritas?

Suck it up. Age is an epidemic. Take a citracal ( http://www.citracal.com/ ) pill every day and tell your "dr." to pound sand.

Had a patient that was 90, broke hi hip riding a 2 yr old, stirrup caught fence and twisted til hip broke, he died last year and was still breaking colts in his upper 90's. Ticker is what got him in the end. Not such a bad thing. I think he would have died so much earlier with the horses. Activity is what makes the bones stronger, not medicine. Eat well, eat right, and work hard, and you should be fine. don't worry about things until they hapen. Kinda like spending all summer in the basement because a tornado MIGHT hit your house even if the skies are clear and you live outside tornado alley.

That's sure how I'm going to try to be. It just hit me kind of hard; came out of nowhere. I have a 3 year old filly that I really was having a great time with-all two rides on her-and hate to think about not getting to ride her.

Im 60 and eat up with ol arthur. The worst thing you can do is stop.Just bow up and go on,I used to take Glucosamine and still do some.I have been the last 2weeks started a lot of Omega Fish oil.It has done more than the other for me.
Celebrex,Mobic,Limbril,Lortab did nothing.Aspirin and Tylenol and exercise do more.for me along with the FO and Cal.Vit D.Lot of it.
I was told when I was 53 you have the body of a 70yr old you are wore out.
I also got a pair of shape ups and wear them when Im afoot and they have done alot to keep me lined up.
All those ol buckin horses and tieing down 50 or more calves a day finally got there.
But now I keep moving and keep on riding.Exercuse us critical and you have to learn to block out as much as you can.

No but I've heard of it and will look into it, thanks. I'm thinking if I'm calcium deficient a daily diet of milkshakes and Bailey's Irish Cream ought to take care of that. I may not be any better, but I won't care! Thanks guys for the kick in the butt.

Do NOT take oscal... evil shit. And unless ur drinking RAW milk, for the calcium, the ice cream endeavors while tastey r worthless for nutrients. it isnt just calcium ur bones r lacking, lots od nutrients missing. Everything in balance and chelated minerals and vits under 1500 daltons molecular weight is necessary. All all supplements need to be water extracted and not chemically extracted. Bone loss and be regenerated with proper supplementation and a balanced diet. If u drink soda stop imediately... it leaches the bones.

Maybe so, but thanks for the advice anyway. Nope, not a pop drinker, have quit coffee. Still a tea addict but think that's an ok thing. I thought I'd been doing pretty well about vitamins, etc. Faithfully take my fish oil and joint supplement, mag and vit D. Are you sure milkshakes won't help?

And along comes Slidey to bring out the bummer in us all, just after Terri got perked up, LOL!

What - NO MILKSHAKES, come on, if she has a chocolate shake, the chocolate will help her mellow out and put her in a good state state of mind.  Chocolate helps make EVERYTHING BETTER and add a milkshake - HEAVEN!!!

Vitamin/mineral quality is subjective depending upon the form theyre in. And they all have to be in balance and bioavailable. Ill just throw this out there as food foe thought... if ur curent supplements were getting the job done, ur doctor wouldnt be concerned about u breaking a hip and u wouldnt be contemplating death by ice cream.... ;) An alkalizing diet is important for overall heath and the ability for the body to process and assimilate nutrients. Everyones diet ideally should be 75% fruits and veggies, 20% protein, and 5% whole grains. (or no grains at all in some instances).Mentally ice cream would be a comfort, but dont believe the dairy council's lies about how homogenized and pasturized milk products..."does a body good". Now tequila on the other hand.... very medicinal!!! lol

There is no life without chocolate. And surely the cacao bean could be considered a vegetable?

Clampitt-what kind of shoes? Do you mean those "rocker" shoes they have recently come out with? My walking buddy has some and likes them. If I can get my sprained ankle healed and the place where the horse stepped on it healed, I will start walking again. THAT is a weight-bearing exercise for sure! (Oh, and when the humidity goes below 96% with a temperature of 100 would be nice too).
